Montreal, September 10, 2025 – The Quebec English School Boards Association (QESBA) welcomes the appointment of Sonia Lebel as Quebec’s new Minister of Education. QESBA calls on the Minister to immediately prioritize building constructive partnerships with the English-language education community, partnerships that are vital to ensuring success for all students across the province.
QESBA will be seeking a meeting with the Minister to address ongoing dossiers. “We look forward to rebuilding the strong and respectful relationship that once characterized our sector’s collaboration with the Ministry,” said Joe Ortona, QESBA President. “Our school boards stand ready to propose solutions and innovative approaches to further strengthen an already successful system for our students, staff, and communities.”
“Our first message to the new Minister will be clear: strengthening our education system requires genuine collaboration, respect, and the proper investments that have long defined the success of Quebec’s English education network,” concluded President Ortona.
QESBA is the voice of English public education in Québec and represents 100,000 students in 300 elementary and high schools, as well as adult and vocational centres across the province.
