St-Sauveur, Friday May 13, 2016 – The Quebec English School Boards Association (QESBA) welcomed both the Minister of Education, Recreation and Sports and his message that Bill 86 on school board governance and structures was being abandoned by his government during his speech to the annual Spring Conference of English school board commissioners and administrators.
“We were particularly pleased to hear that student success will be the sole focus of the revised legislation,” said QESBA President Jennifer Maccarone. “This was the message we carried out throughout the yearlong discussion on structure that culminated with the introduction of Bill 86.

We are so proud of our English community, our parents, staff, commissioners and chairs who came together to unite against a piece of legislation that was incomprehensible, virtually impossible to implement, and most probably illegal,” continued the President.

QESBA joined with many English and French groups across Quebec, French school boards in the rest of Canada, the Canadian School Board Association and the National School Boards Association (USA) to denounce and collaborate in changing the discussion from structures to our students.

“The Minister has shown that he is not just the Minister of Education but also he is now the Minister of student success and we look forward to working closely with him and his team to build strong, leading edge policy that will support and value teachers, teaching, and learning. Thank you to everyone who joined in this effort. We are a stronger community for the accomplishments that we achieved together,” concluded the President.
