Montreal, September 30, 2025 – The Quebec English School Boards Association (QESBA) is marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. This day honours the children who never returned home, as well as survivors of residential schools, their families, and their communities.
This commemorative day, led by Indigenous communities, is a reminder of the lasting impacts of residential schools on generations of children, families, and communities. It is a day to reflect, to learn, and to honour the memory of the Indigenous children whose lives were lost.
“The orange shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom, and self-esteem that many Indigenous children experienced in this country. This day reminds us all that Every Child Matters,” said QESBA President Joe Ortona.
“Orange Shirt Day is an important opportunity to move forward together—Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples—in the true spirit of truth and reconciliation,” concluded the President.
QESBA is the voice of English public education in Québec and represents 100,000 students in over 300 elementary, high schools, and adult and vocational centres across Québec.
