Montréal, Québec March 24, 2017 – The Quebec English School Boards Association (QESBA) welcomes the announcement made by Education Minister Sébastien Proulx of a $655-million investment in repairing, upgrading, and building schools.

The Minister was in Montréal to make the announcement and to underscore the important investments being made for the five Montréal school boards’ schools. “We are very pleased with this major support for all Québec School Boards” stated QESBA President Jennifer Maccarone. “The job of planning and securing professionals and contractors for the 2300 funded projects across the province can now begin”.

Of the total that the Minister announced over $240-million will go to the 5 Montréal Boards with Commission scolaire de Montréal getting the biggest portion of more than $125-million.

“Approximately $47-million will be shared by the English Montreal ($36-million) and Lester B. Pearson ($11-million) School Boards. We now are waiting for the confirmation of the specific amounts being accorded to each of our other English Boards” Ms. Maccarone concluded.

QESBA represents approximately 100,000 students in the 9 English School Boards and is the voice of English public education in Québec.
